Congratulations iMac fans - and well done Apple.
This really drives home the pain associated with the "professional" TOP of the LINE MBP that now sports a processor pack that is just a bit better than the top of the line Mac mini for heavens sake!!!! What is wrong with that picture:rolleyes:
Oh well - tick tock tick toc:confused:

I really hope the update is this Tuesday--I'll get out of lectures with my credit card in hand, ready to purchase. It can't come a minute too soon, as I really don't know how much longer my iBook has to last (bad noises, grinding, hanging, random shut downs...).

I certainly hope that the resolution on the Apple Movie Store will be AT LEAST 480x720 (aka 480P). Otherwise, between Netflix and super cheap DVDs these days, I don't see how Apple can compete with lower than DVD resolution.
If they are really smart (and the studios play ball, which is doubtful) they would go straight to 1080P.

lol, who cares, got the extra 1gb for waiting. Are you unhappy because you got your prediction of "NOT going to happen, it's going to be next year" wrong?
Not at all. I've had predictions go wrong before, so this is nothing new to me. But it just annoys me that some people are so concerned with getting the best computer at the moment when it'll only be the best for a few months at best, and in the case of the MacBook, isn't even the best.

Specifically addressed after the main demo.
No upgrade pricing, versions, etc.; one price, from the app store. Period.
Considering the current FCS price...
I would be shocked if there wasn't a Studio bundle though... they do it for iLife and iWorks, even making some software exclusive to the iLife Bundle (iWeb for example).
Though the App Store would probably be much better for fighting piracy.

We're very used to using a mouse, but it's definitely not the most natural way to interact with a computer.
Voice commands are the most natural way to interact with a computer. But it does not work well.
Touch screens are more natural than the mouse and keyboard. But they too do not work as well.
I choose usability over "natural".

Yes the chipset has PATA for optical right now, they also show the two unused SATA over by the Optical drive -- but use them for whatever if they are there.
Doesn't mean Apple won't switch and make use of them for optical if there is need.

Wow. Where did you find this schmatic? This means you can alternately run your opticals external on a FW bus outside and put two more SATA Drives inside the "optical is optional" bays for a total of 4.5 TB possible inside (6 x 750GB). Fantastic and Awesome!!
Make them all 400GB @$100 each and you can have 2.4 TB inside for $600.
You can have your system stuff running on one of those with a second for scratch - video - then have 4 removables under the shelf for different clients. KILLER for Client management. This is incredible. I am really getting crazy excited about the new Mac Pro's design.
Also just went over all the Leopard previews today and am now getting a Jones for Leopard's new features big time. Now for the 8 or 9 month wait. Wow.

I hope the new iPod's ebook mode can handle PDF files. That would rock.
There're some portable ebook reader out there, say Sony's, but they
are too closed source and you can only put documents you bought, not the documents you made yourself. I hope Apple won't take that stupid approach...

It doesn't matter what anyone thinks of the technology personally. It's FACTUALLY an integrated part of the web these days. It needs support on iPhone. Period.
Damn right it does! I wish Adobe would get off their butts and make one for the iPhone that Apple could approve. Until then, we're all out of luck.

Proof? Or did you just make that up? Also, this thread isn't just about the US, the trend is the same in every predominantly white country where blacks reside.
It isn't my job to educate you on the facts - Read (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Race_and_crime_in_the_United_States), focusing on the linked statistical breakdowns by ethnicity. You'll have to nose around to find all the data. All that the facts proove is that poor black people with little education who grow up in economically depressed comunities and are surrounded by crime are more likely to commit crimes - but are also more likely to be profiled by law enforcement and the justice system. Also, the data are skewed towards urban areas, meaning that poor rural crime is less well documented.
In other words, it is totally impossible to make any purely race-focused judgemnent from the data because there are so many other factors involved. The same problems arise when examining crime data from any other nation with a minority black population, or any minority population for that matter.
I'd rather live in a white trash trailer park than in a black ghetto.
Irrelevant.
They are both lousy, but trailer parks are safer. People may get into domestic disputes in their own trailers and call the police, but you don't see white gangs terrorizing the streets and having to worry about getting shot walking outside your front door after dark.

"If we're completely wrong and you completely screw up the entire music market for Mac owners, the sandbox is small enough that you really won't damage the overall music industry very much."
So, I take this to mean that having iTunes on PC is what's holding up the iTunes movie store from getting the major studios. This quote seems to be code for "the studios are terrified we're not going to get this right".
Which, of course, they're aren't if "right" means uncrackable for the next millennium, which the studios want because they're afraid of the boogieman (who is imaginary) instead of realizing there's profit to be had in them thar bits.

Filmantopia, just because you can go to the auto store and buy $1000 worth of tools doesn't mean you can automatically repair a Mercedes Benz. You can buy wood, wiring and plumbing materials at Home Depot, but doesn't that mean you can build a functioning house that meets all building code standards.
Likewise, owning a piece of software doesn't make you a professional. The tools may become less expensive, but the knowledge and experience requirements remain the same.
I already said it above,I'll copy what I said:
He put "professional" in quotes because he was being sarcastic,he meant that if someone is worried about the fact that more people can now operate a software because it's simpler to use/more affordable then they must not be a real pro because a real pro wouldn't worry about such things, they know that they have the creativity and experience that sets them appart.

I actually really like the look of iTunes 7. The new view options are cool, but I'll probably just stick with the text-only "list" view.

just wait at the local starbucks. All the "people" who got in to the conference will eventually end up there begging for free wifi, a venti mocha and a pastry while trying to blog that Steve Jobs actually looked their way. "It was magical.. I pee'd a little!".
Local Starbucks? Are you talking about the one on 4th and Minna Street right across the alley from West?
Why would they beg for wifi and coffee when all of West is covered by Wifi already and has coffee and snacks?
Also WWDC is more then just a "keynote". I would hardly call all the labs and conferences a "standard press event".
One more thing... stop trolling.

Technically it's not MP that's the issue. It's pixel density.
Given the perfect conditions and equal image sizes (I.e. All the images at 2MP) the results will be almost indistinguishable between a phone, point and shoot and a D-SLR.
Comparing the 5MP iPhone 4 sensor to a 12MP Point & Shoot and a 40D the difference between the iPhone 4 and the P&S and 40D will be significant.
Simply: 40D @ 10MP >> TZ8 @ 12MP >>> iPhone 4 @ 5MP.

Staying away from the traditional rangefinder lens deign did not make the lens thinner, it just allowed the extra room to clear out the mirror swing but the les had to get bigger and protrude more. It is like saying "no need to make the phone thicker, just make the lens stck out!" which obviously isn't really an attractive solution - it was done one a few years ago and didn't fare all that well.
I wasn't proposing the same solution, merely an observation on the statement:
"You are limited by the focal length, which is dictated by the thickness of the device. There is no magic way around this."
For example: with the various adapters to use 35mm lenses on 4/3rds format some include elements to accommodate different registration distances.
i.e. you're neither limited by the focal length; nor is the focal length dictated by the device. Is that not so? Could you not employ a nice aspherical positive element to take advantage of a larger sensor without "just making the lens stick out"? (ref his original link to DPReview article on Focal Length).

What did they ban and why?
They banned songs like Lucy in the Sky and Ticket to Ride... (not to mention Metallica's Seek and Destroy) because the songs reminded people of the event.

Are you insane or just trolling? You're complaining because the FREE iPod that Apple is giving to you for FREE is the previous version that was just updated today, even though you're getting it for FREE!!! For you to complain about this makes YOU the rude one. You sound like a spoiled brat whining and complaining because the porche mummy and dada bought you for christmas is black instead of red. There's just no pleasing some people.
RELAX dude!
Not everyone get one for free! It's only in US!
I can only get a discount on the old model! And no discount at all for the new.
