:) I appreciate your logical thinking and attention to detail! Yes, I've a worldwide roaming cell phone whose number is listed in Bay area, but I can receive calls wherever cellphone signal reaches.
I had included my cell phone number in my letters to IO earlier and he first called my office number and then tried my cell.
Hope the IO was not just checking if you still work for the employer you listed in your application. Not finding you in your office, and your telling him that you are out of country for an extended period may raise some flags.

To Admin: Please start seperate thread for each consulate, where people can share their experiences and ask specific questions.
Now coming back to my question. My labor is approved and I-140 is pending.
I have declared that my employer is applying for my GC.
Should i carry documents proving that my I-140 is pending and that labor is approved?
My 6th year H1-B will be expiring in Aug 31 2007 and i have valid I-797 approved upto that date. I know i can get 3 years extension anytime with approved I-140 or atleast 1 year H1-B extension.
Will that be a problem at all? I am asking this because, the numbe rof months for which stamping will be valid will be just few months.

I got my visa stamped in june 2006 and expiry was august 2007. Usually your employer will never give you any Lc or I140 approval docs. Good luck trying to get those :). They dont ask for any docs related to permanent residency as long as you have a valid 1797A.

Being in Consulting and searching a new contract at the same place of residence (during Nov-Dec) is always a nightmare. I'm in IT industry for last 10 yrs and into consulting for last 5 yrs and always tried to keep clients Extra-Happy starting Nov 1st , so that i could get thru these 2 winter months.
Starting Mid-Jan the budgets will open up and you will surely land up.
IT Jobs are there - worst case you may need to relocate.
Congratulations on becoming a new Father. Though your name sounds as if you were the mother :). Anyway, if you got 4 interviews in 6 weeks, that sure does not look like weak economy. I remember the recession of 2001-2002. People used to get one interview in 4 months back then.

Get your facts straight. "Undocumented" does not mean a person who has "lost" his documents....it means a person about whom there is no record (i.e. documentation) at the USCIS/Dept. of State. A legal immigrant would not become out of status just because he lost his documents or they were destroyed in a flood or fire because there are typically copies and records available at the employer, the IRS, the Social Security Administration and the USCIS. A person who has all his documents would still be classified as illegal if he or she overstays their visa.
Anyways....please do not try to hijack this thread in a different direction than what is intended. After a series of hearing by the strongly enforcement only leaning house questioning each and every aspect of the CIR with negative connotations, finally, there is a hearing organized by Senator John Cornyn, who was instrumental in getting the SKIL bill included in the CIR focusing on something positive and fairly non-controversial in the CIR/SKIL/PACE bills and that directly affects all of us legal, documented, high skilled immigrants.
SO, to bring the thread back to its original intended path...Are there any members in the Dallas or nearby areas who would be interested in attending the hearing, please contact himanshu at immigrationvoice.org The hearing is scheduled for tomorrow.

since this thread starts with Lofgren.....she seems to be a good soul for IV core to contact and get our woes heard....I am sure IV core was involved in discussions with her team during the VB fiasco....so she should be aware..of our issues

First, your scenario is overly optimistic . Even then EB3 can use a max of 10,000 of such visas and pass on the rest to the other workers category.
Which basically means Eb3s with PDs> 2004 will get screwed even in a very optimistic scenario.
Worse is Eb2s do not have such a cap . So not a drop trickles down till Eb2 is completely satiated.
Assume HR5882 gets signed by president and visas are distributed according to current laws .....Eb3 will get some benefit but not much. Infact everyone other than Eb3 will get maximum benefit including famili-based, other workers etc.
Moral of the story - Eb3s with PD > 04 ....port to Eb2 ...if you can...now

One can start working as soon as H-1B transfer is filed, if the beneficiary has (or had) H-1B status in past. Google for H-1B porting.

Let us say I accumulate 40 points and return to India for good. Do I still get Social Security in India if -
1. I am a US Citizen living in India?
2. If I am a GC holder living in India?
3. I am neither a US citizen nor a GC holder living in India?
Any helpful links are appreciated. I have tried to calculate benefits using Social Security benefits calculator, but if you key in residence outside USA and non-citizen, it does not work...
With citizens of India, it is full penson benefits, what ever it is (earned based on contributions). You don't get medicare type of thing.
For citizens of countries like Canada, it is limited by windfall limits. People who worked in both US and Canada become elligible for too much retirement benefits and it is curtailed by limits.
So in nutshell, any treaty may worsen benefits of 10 or 10+ Social Security Contributers.

My I-140 was recently approved. 140-485 filed concurently in July 2007. I have a new job offer and plan to use AC21. However I am worried because the wages at new job would be significantly higher than the old job. There are two reasons for the big difference
1-Desi employer v/s corporate employer
2-Dallas v/s New York
Any comments from people who have faced similar situation will be highly appreciated.

I was in DC yesterday and today and it's a life changing experience. It was very well co-ordinated. Thanks to all the people who showed up. Three cheers to nixstor, Arun and the local team who had the difficult tasks of getting permits, co-ordinating with local authorities and everything went according to plan..Since I had lobby meetings in the PM had to leave early. They still had pletny of work to do. Their hard work paid off...

With the new rule on FBI name checks, a potential 47K with current PDs could get their GS's soon. I wonder how much of a shift we will see in the PD's from now, after the 47K is not taken into account. I would predict a minimum of atleast a year jump, or am I being optimistic. :confused:
