    guys cool down it took them till end of May about 2 months to issue all receipt notices for H1 filed on Apr 2 this year. With the whole yes-no-yes situation this month they are definitely backlogged. Lets just wait till we actually get the receipts .

    there is no point in calling names.

    I called too. They told me that NSC needs 2 month to process it--presumably, getting the FP notice out to me.

    incompetence of USCIS is beyond comprehension.

    You gave me EAD, you gave me AP, you gave me receipts......why did you put me back at the mercy of NSC again? WHYYY? you knew they suck!!!
    No FP yet for me or my wife. Been calling CIS.....feels like talking to a wall.
    I guess we CSC transferees are DOOMED!!!
    There shall be light at the end of the tunnel....or it could just be an incoming train :-)

    Got the same too. I git frustrated and sent out an e-mail on Friday. Not sure if I should really fill in the form. What a mess at every stage :mad:

    I got an automated response from ombudsman saying that I will have to fill out a formal inquiry in the form of 7001. That's the form to fill out if you want ombudsman to inquire into your case.

    Ok, I've seen a lot of threads about go to the rally, actions items, I've reading a lot of guys saying dont ask for your receipt status, dont waste your time etc, etc.

    Yes we did the rally we were great with all those signs, and appearing in the Indy TV but...

    Question remains open:

    1. When are they going to increase the GC quota?
    2. When congress id going to do something?

    I've the feeling that that's it we made our point but we are still with no GC, waiting receipts..............


    Things don't happen so soon, and that too with law makers. Our purpose of rally was to bring awareness in media, public and Lawmakers. and in that part I think we did reasonably good. Now, things are into Law makers hands and it may take time to resolve immigration system, as its been screwed from decades.

    Keep your hopes alive and just wait and watch. There's nothing we can do more.

    As you say that the illegal immigrant lobby gets hundreds of thousands of dollars per month. Do you think any illegal immigrant is contributing this money. They work for minimum wages and have hardly any money to spare.
    I think most of the money comes from businesses that employ these people to cut costs.

    Yes true, the hispanic groups is also about 50 million in size. I'm sure these businesses are breaking some law in funding, besides employment.
    There are large organizations that support our cause too, especially IT. They played a big part in positive H1 reform. Not sure if they were approached or they work independently.
    It looks like were averaging $0.05 per IV member though.
    I find it hard to believe we don't have 2000 H-1s willing to contribute $25 a month
    do people expect 40-50 persons to fund IV for campaigns that can benefit 45,000 members, as they watch from the sidelines?


    Another point I think is that even if IV had a couple of million dollars I don't think it will be able to pursuade the Congress to pass any legislation to bring relief to legal immigrants .

    I will defer that to core group & Donor Forum, but IV has acheived a lot of things as posted earlier, part of it through active lobby groups and political experts.
    Well the illegal lobby is not doing anything much different, it looks like Dream will go through.

    I checked with some of my colleagues and friends. They all have sent the letters, but most of them have not participated in this poll at the start. So I wouldnt get discouraged by smaller number of votes in it.

    I just called USCIS today and the officer told me that they haven't scheduled our biometrics yet since they are overwhelmed with the applications. She said I should wait till next year.

    Also inquired about my name check and she said that they've started it and it's still pending...

    Only option is to wait it out as always...

    Can you please provide me with the information about the questions your friend faced? In my case the client side project was completed. I would appreciate your response.

    I am not sure whether your case and my colleague's case is similar.

    This happened in 2007. USCIS conducts random audits on companies to verify their authenticity.

    USCIS conducted an audit on his company. They fixed an appointment with him in his office. They asked all the tax returns, W2, Paystubs etc. They also talked to his client manager and verified his duties.

    After that everything went fine. He works for the same employer now.

    Here's update on my cases

    Self e-filed: May 30, 2008
    FP: Jun 25, 2008
    Card prod ordered: July 23, 2008
    EB3-I / PD: Mar 2006 / I-485 - RD: Jul 2007

    Will post about duration as soon as I get the cards in hand.

    I Efiled mine on may 19th, FP on jul 3rd, no update yet.
    Efiled my wife's EAD on may 30th, FP on jun 24th, Card prod ordered July 23rd.

    We are currently working on EADs which expire on 30th Aug.
    Am worried if I will have the card by then or not.
    If i dont have the approval by aug 19th, I am planning to take Infopass for the interim EAD.

    It sucks to see they dont follow FIFO or atleast close to FIFO, so much variation as some june filers received card in june itself.

    per country limits or not, there will always be a hihgher number of Indians and Chinese just due to the massive backlogs. BTW, there are about 12 million Hispanic people, so called un documented people, just wait til they get legalised. you arguement will holdcabiut as much water as tea strainer.

    The hispanic lobby is very very aware of the per country quota and they they know amnesty is useless unless an exception is made on teh per county quota. That is why in every CIR bill (I think even in the 1986 amnesty) there is(was) a exception on the per-country quota.

    H1B/EB-I/C people are are so less in number that the political system doesnt care
    and industry doesnt care either (why fix it when H1Bs are always willing to put
    up with it).

    using a flash is ok, just be careful if you wear glasses (you might need some retakes before you get it right). and turn on red eye removal. 3.2 mp for the size (2x2) of picture is good enough.. Even 1 mp is good enough if you are zooming in to take pictures. but if you are cropping a 1 mp picture to take out surroundings, its better to use 2mp plus camera.

    When using a flash you get harsher shadows, to counter that have light source both from left right and top and do the picture in daytime with atleast some natural light. Remember stand atleast 2 feet away from the white background.

    Flash results specially in home environment without proper lighting won't be good at nighttime unless you use multiple synchronised flash guns.

    I guess the other persons remark regarding flash may be related to lighting / over exposures/ shadows. (make sure you wipe your face if you have oily skin - no kidding )

    In the end if you really want to make your pictures look good and per specifications go to a portrait studio.

    You may admire them as much as you want but fact is these are just "glorified" bodyshoppers. I meet many workers from these "great" companies at my workplace and see them being treated just as "low cost alternatives" and nothing else by this huge financial company in NY/NJ area. Because of their (INFY, TATA, Wipro, Satyam) "low billing rates" these guys cant afford good lifestyle. And back home in India INFY and TATA CEOs make billions and talk BIG. I've not met any TATA, Satyam guy here who is happy with their employer. They just hate their employers and always looking for a change. I wonder where they stand in terms of employee satisfaction? They treat their people like slave and send them as low cost labor. Not only that - they exploit US immigration rules and make use of L1 to keep their people long term at cliant place when they dont get enough H1.

    No difference from local bodyshoppers! Dont think they are great companies. You may say "you folks are frustrated with these companies". But this is the fact. Period.

    I think this thread is hijacked. I will also join the band :p I work for one of these companies (SWITCH - Satyam, Wipro, Infosys, Tata, Cognizant, HCL) and came on L1, became H1B and on the path of GC through the same company. Some of what you have said is correct that the employers are not paid same as what IBM US employers get (and of course what some consultants get). Some of the issues are working off-late hours and coordination effort etc.

    The positive side of these companies is
    1) Career advancement - One can really grow into lead and managerial positions if they have the aptitude
    2) Technical Career Paths are there for those who are technically inclined.
    3) Benefits - There are good benefits which usually may not be there for those working for desi-consultants
    4) Support from a large pool of knowledge - If I face any issue, I post it in my company help forum, there will be many responses,some real good ones within a day.
    5) More job security - companies are not yet used to down-sizing. In hard times, there could be some salary rationalization (which I think is OK - better than losing job) and increased utilization (again doesn't mean more work from individual it means optimal bench strength)
    6) Growth - While it is debatable whether it can sustain the rupee strengthening or not, unless the company 's strategy is very narrow, nobody outsource for the cost alone...Many are simply build-or-buy decisions, and based on core-competency and risk management. Deals that are struck these days are multi-year, multi-million dollar ones which will provide guaranteed business over a long periods.

    Coming to those who come on L1 or H1, most of them want to get an opportunity to work at client location to better their perspective (apart from Dollar conversion). Nobody comes here by force. Their priorities are always different than most of the forum readers' Their choices are also limited. Some leave as soon as they come here (I personally interviewed at least 10 folks last year who floated their resumes as soon as they landed here), some want to go back after working here few years, some switch to H1Bs through desi-consultants, thus enter rat race, some try to grow here in their company on long term basis.

    Hope this clarifies few who pity SWITCH employees..

    Again these are not "glorified" bodyshoppers. It is a very wrong impression. I am a manager at one of such companies. We have highest regards for our personnel, we strive hard to make a big difference, we compete with other service companies like Accenture, IBM and EDS, have high client focus and we feel proud about it. Never in ANY meetings or strategies we keep our employers' interest below anything.

    Have they mentioned it on their website? Usually DMVs like CT etc.. mention on website that they need a Employment verification letter, as a matter of fact, they don't even accept paystubs they just want employment verification letter.

    Folks - my advice is : Please do not argue with the department. Ask them to post their new requirement on their website so that you don't go there and get disappointed.
