A few days I called Comcast to disconnect CNN and CNN headlines from my cable. The Comcast representative was surprised as to why I want to cut CNN. She transferred me to her supervisor. The supervisor noted down my complaint and said that he will get back to me in 3 business days. Next day I got a call from Comcast that they will block CNN entirely from my cable. I thanked them as I will not have bigotry coming into my house anymore.

Sanju, I agree with you that it is very hard to listen to bigotry when it is particularly aimed at us. However not listening to it and avoiding it doesn't make it go away. We must know our enemy and always keep track of what they are up to. Arya-Chanakya the great statesman of Chandragupta's court once said "Keep your friends close and enemies closer" This statement is so very true to this day.

I think the contributions are only from those who visit this forum regularly on a day to day basis. I think there are just many people who might have just registered to get some updates but don't necessarily visit this or any other forum regularly.
A lot of people I know get their updates from the web site of one of the law firms, but don't necessarily participate in this or any other forum. Otherwise, they just carry on with their lives hoping some law will pass some day.
Some of those to whom I have talked about contributing to IV have politely said they will take a look at it. Otherwise, I feel they have just been institutionalized in their current setup and lives. I don't think the message has really reached them that there is a need to participate and contribute in a organization like IV and try and make a difference.

My 6th year H1B is expiring on April 28, 2008. I applied labor through PERM on October 2, 2007. I got the audit letter on December 3, 07. This audit letter does not state anything about the issue of the audit letter. However, the sentence �The job duties and/ or requirements are beyond those defined for the job by SOC/ O*Net code an Occupation Title provided by the State Workforce Agency� is highlighted in this letter. The company has approximately 16 employees including me.
I�m very confused and not sure what to do because my lawyer refused to answer any question. In my case that the Labor Certification is still pending (under audit) and my H1B is expiring in April, I wonder if I should start taking vacation now or go to work in another country for approximately 6-7 months and come back later to use the rest of my H1B until October 2, 08 to meet 365 days period? After October 2, 08, I can then start filing the H1B Extension for 1 year. Or should I wait until my I-140 approved and come back around October 2, 08 and do the H1B Extension for another 3 years? Or should I stay in US until April, 08 and take vacation until October, 08 and then comeback around October, 08 to file H1B extension? You see, soundbites and rhetoric are very very tempting. Calling ourselves slaves, using words like "hi Tech slaves" makes us feel that we have finally taunted the system and shamed the lawmakers into acting.
Well, that's not how it works. We are advocating congress. We are not running for an election here and using soundbites and rhetoric really helps when trashing your election opponents. We are trying to get something done here, we are not running an election campaign and we dont have any opponents to taunt and shame by using the words like "slavery" and by trying to make a mockery of the system.
If taunts and rhetoric and soundbites would have done the job, we would have gotten bills passed long time ago.
Those who have made suggestions about using words like "Slaves" and "Hitech Slaves", and "tax paying slaves" have probably never been to lawmaker's offices. These words not only are improper and not only do they provide ammunition to people who oppose us, they are downright flat wrong. They also bring disgust and awkward situation if you use them in lawmaker's office. Imagine this: You are sitting with the judiciary counsel and if they ask you..."Who do your represent" and you say "We are from a grassroots nonprofit organization called Hi tech slaves". What do you think is going to happen to the rest of the meeting??
And by the way, those who are running out of patience with Greencard process are totally capable of packing their bags and going back to their home country. So you cannot call it slavery. Slavery is bonded labor. Where is the bond here? If you dont like your job, then change your job and get a new H1? If you cant port your PD and if you are sick of waiting, then you can go back because really, the bond is in your head, if at all. Its not like your employer is holding a gun to your head. That WAS THE CASE during actual slavery in this country. They were sold, traded and bonded. They were killed if they disobeyed? By comparing ourselves and our situation to that, you are not only being counterproductive, you are insulting the real victims of slavery that existing 150 years ago.
Use common sense and always think that what would be the impact if my post is read by people who intend to testity against us in Congress. Read John Miano's testimony in July 2006 in Judiciary committee. And use some discretion.

Let Indian ambassador fix the Indian consulates in US first. Service and courtesy at Indian consulates in US is so pathetic. USCIS is far better compared to Indian consulates.

My wife will be on H1(currently on H4) october onwards...we received our EAD's yesterday. Can I still go and apply for SSN? I mean will that mean she is on EAD and H1 no longer valid?
Not simply because she applied for her SSN.
The EAD kicks in, once her employer fills out her I-9 using her EAD as permission to work inside the US. If she holds multiple jobs, then entering EAD into one I-9 will mean she has to ensure that she has all her I-9s from all employers updated to the EAD.
At this point, the H-1b is no longer used, but does not get cancelled (unless the employer revokes it). It just goes dormant and can be revived again by filing an extension. Another way is to go out of the country and return using the H-1b visa.

When i first came in 1999 marrying us citizen was sort of heard of by IT folks.
by 2003 i was coming across so many cases of marrying us citizen.
among non indians its very common resulting in their PD being more recent.
In fact my friends who went for marrying citizen ...are way better placed in life.
It become so hard to marry from india now with contract jobs lasting short time and salary being so low after cut form h1b vendors. eventually teh pain will reach the point of yield.
