Does anyone know how Quebec compares to Ontario. Specifically Montreal to Toronto. Economically, culturaly, etc.?

I have a sister that lives in Beaconsfiels (on the island of Montreal) - so I know what I am talking about ... been there many times.
Depends - do you speak French. If yes, Montreal is outstanding. If not, then TO (said "T" then "O" (not zero)) (or Toronto), is more likely desireable to immigrants. It is extremely multicultural, economically not dependant on a "referendum" (French trying to separate sending the economy for a spin).
Housing in TO is somewhat expensive - remember, that it is the 4th largest city in North America. Look also at Alberta (Edmonton & Calgary), and British Columbia - again housing is very expensive here. May wish to also consider looking at Halifax in Nova Scotia, but most likely will not be your choice. A city like London or Kitchener, Ontario is great - just need the skill set to get a job there.
Conclusion - Ontario is most likely your best bet (and the weather is better than Monteal by a long shot)

Mark Kirkoreiean's (or whatever his name is) thesis is that not everyone who gets a green card through EB is a genius, and that is not good for America. "Einstein" here doesn't understand that it takes more than a genius to make a company successful, and thereby create more jobs for your average Joe. If you are in the business of developing cutting edge technology, you certainly need some very smart people in your labs. But the guy who actually gets the product out of the door is your moderately above average skilled employee who knows how to get the job done. The whole argument that America needs the "best and the brightest" only is terribly flawed. And what better example than this Kericorien (or whatever his name is) character himself. In his testimony, he suggests that EB should be limited to EB1, and that too, to about 15K. Great, these 15K people will be able to do the job of the 500K gainfully employed individuals whose EB application is pending. Super! Good luck with selling that Mark.

I dont think that after using H1 for 6 years, you can switch to H1 status from EAD status once 485 is rejected. Now, if you have used less than 6 years of H1, and then used AC21 portability, used EAD, abandoned H1 status and continued on EAD status and if the 485 gets rejected, there may be a way to reclaim the remaining unused portion of H1. It may involve going out of country and coming back in. Check with a lawyer, I dont know much and haven seen any case where someone who was on EAD status could go back to H1 status. Usually H1 to EAD is a one-way street, especially if you have already used up the 6 years of H1 stay in country.

Ignore the IOs, just talk to your Senator or Congressman. They will be able to help you out. I was stuck in name check for more than 3 years. My congressman did not help but the senators office had a namecheck cell and they help out with genuine cases. The person there helped me clear my name check in 2-3 months (talk, dont email, send certified letter with details after talking to them). Had i known this earlier I would have had contacted them earlier and would have gotten my GC in June 07. My lawyer sdid not allow us to contact the IOs for information and i suffered big time because of that. Based on my experience all i can say is be proactive.

But now that they have opened my application and mailed an RFE on Oct 22, at least I know that some IO is processing my case. Right now I am eagerly waiting for the RFE details. Thanks to every person who answered this post. I managed to get an appointment in mumbai for Aug 2nd. This will give enough time to send necessary document from my end and also give enough breathing to file the application.

My PD is Aug 2005. My employer by mistake sent the 485 application on June 27 and USCIS received on June 28. Today Aug 21, I received the rejected 485 full package back. Employer is following up whether it can sent back. Anybody has any idea of any luck in this case, or has to wait till dates are current again?:mad:

Yeah I get that the money will be transferred from the Social security system here to the Indian Govt system.
My point is it does not do a damn thing for us workers personally. That money will dissapear into a dark hole in the Indian Gov't coffers instead of a dark hole here, further as the rules stand, I have a slim chance of getting the money from here through social security payments when I turn 65 even if I am in India. Try that within the money in Indian gov't hands.
On the other hand, it makes the Indian gov't allign with corporate america, as they all have a vested interest in a Temp. worker program such as H1b absent green cards. Which will be a win win for all concerned except us.
So I repeat my question..................Why is this good again?

The first thing to do in call your attorney and ask him to be with you when any uscis or ice guy shows up. Right to an attorney is a basic right. Do not think that u will offend ice officer if u have u'r attorney present. Do not think that u'r charming personality will put u in the good books of ice. If I were u, I would not do anything, without consulting my attorney in such a matter.
Also, keep bank stmts and all recent paystubs handy, along with past exp. Letters and degree/certificates. Copiew of h1 + gc petition/approval would be good to have.

When you change jobs after 485 Filing, is it necessary to change with an EAD or I can get an H1B transfer. I may get laid off, and EAD has not come yet and I don't have the time for EAD to come through. Can I transfer H1B while 485 is pending for less than 180 days without it affecting 485. I will make sure that job duties are similar and I am fairly certain that employer will not revoke I-140. My assumption if that I need to be working on H1B or EAD to maintain legal immigration status and there can't be any gap between the two employments.

The dream act is an awesome legislation, my dad was one who sent his application for I-485 and it was received on the 2nd of july. However, due to the July visa fiasco he is stuck like the rest of you guys. My point is rather that I aged out in June 2007 and could not be added with my family, for the month of July. I would receive benefits because this would put me out of status as well...also children of illegals are still children. They are not illegal because they did not choose the right to come here but came without any knowledge. So Please everyone take your time to call your respective senators and email them. Can anyone tell what will be the status of a person who has used AC21 , and does not get the EAD renewal before the existing EAD expires ? Assume 140 has been approved, 180 days has been passed and got the EAD renewal receipt.
