And Do you (canadian wanna be) have any clue that to get respected salary and position you will be forced by illiterate Canadians to have "Professional Engineering Certificates"... It will suck blood out of your body for 5 years... So just do not read "Greener Side" of Canadian Immigration... I know it may not be applicable to all but more or less most of will have to face the same music in their careers. My all Canadian friends and relatives want to be Americans.. Only some of them practically could proceed for that.. After some stage of life it becomes hard to move families.. That is the reason they are facing now to take decision and simultaneously do not want to live in Canada anymore.. If you have 101 fever it will take 1 month to have Doctor's appointment... GST.. Higher taxes.. statistically there are chances "Most of members of this forum - Canadian Wanna Be" will have less promotions and/or increments in salary eventhough they will find themselves most skilled wherever they will work. I really don't see how removing the per country ceilings alone without increasing the anual quota will help the entire comminity. If you do that alone all it will do is make the date retrogressed for all the countries even further. So where's the gain?
Getting the anual quota increased, not counting dependents in the quota and recapturing visas from passed years will help EVERYBODY.
If people want to think that something petty as removing the per country quota is going to solve all our problms then all the best (and God bless us all) ! :cool:

I don't think there is much I disagree with you. You are right about most things. Especiallly, that it is not an exact science. A lot depends upon how many applicants there are, and how many numbers are increased, and how much the country limits are increased by.
I also don't think that the country limits will go away totally. They will probably just increase them. But you never know. Espeically, because at some point, they will go to the point system, and then who knows whats going to happen to us.
Also, its not that I am concerned about what is GOOD JUST FOR ME. (BTW, its not just me, its about a third of IV) I am more worried about what is bad for me.
i think it's pretty clear that increasing GC numbers is the first priority for iv. removing country limits would be a thin band aid of sorts if the GC numbers do not change. GC numbers have to increase, the rest comes after that.

August 2003 is a good PD if it were EB2 and you could have stayed with your company. I heard in this forum from someone that, if the person is Masters graduate and worked in related for three years they are exempt from cap even though they applied in EB3 category. If this is true, it is good for you to stay in your current company and not try substitution. If this is not true and if I were you I would have gone for substitution.
What ever you do, do it with good terms with your current employer, so you can come back and join them and be able to use the 2003 PD, if some thing goes wrong with your substitution. If you leave the company and join something else, if you think that you cannot join them back, then it may not worth it. Again, it depends on your personal situation, if you don't have a spouse who is waiting for EAD to work, you should not be risking this.

I have heard the opposite. In fact one recent story I heard , was the guy applied in EB1 as International Manager and got his GC in 6 months. Again the company applying is Cognizant.
Maybe the source u heard from is someone from Cognizant itself or supporter of Cognizant whose trying to cover up and trying make sure that no one reports about their misuse of EB1, so that they can continue to apply in EB1. This is a high possibility. So when you hear such news do not believe it completely.
Morever H-1Bs are rejected for lot of companies. So cognizant is no exception to that. Regarding the EB-1 GC holders being deported , I find that really hard to believe.
Its perfectly legal for Cognizant to apply for EB1 for a Manager on L1A. Salary may be peanuts , and that cant be a basis of discrimination.

I have been to srilanka and only tamils in colombo should have ID wherever they go. I was checked in multiple places because i was from TN.(this was back in 2000).
I have met hundreds of businessman from srilanka in TN who lost everything and doing daily work to live. They were not from south or north part of SL but from colombo..
Do you know how many tamils fled that country and living all over the world.
Even now there is no political solution provided by SL govt after they clear out the so called Terrorists.

I have met hundreds of businessman from srilanka in TN who lost everything and doing daily work to live. They were not from south or north part of SL but from colombo..
Do you know how many tamils fled that country and living all over the world.
Even now there is no political solution provided by SL govt after they clear out the so called Terrorists.
It is India's business because india provided training and weapons to the so called terrorists during indra gandhi period. If we don't mind then china and pak will mind and they will be at India's balls and they can squeeze as hard as they can.

Seriously I don't care - my personal opinion that in this particular case it is none of our ( India's ) business to meddle in Sri Lankan affairs when they are on the verge of getting rid of a menace they have . Terrorism is not a solution of anything . Only peaceful times can bring happiness and prosperity.

US economy situation is alarming. I doubt they will consider any immigration related bill until financial crisis stablises.2009 will be the key.Economy has to stablise. If not anti immigrants will block any bill citing the economy as the reason. If unemployment increases every month then any immigration reform is distance possiblity.Illegal immigrants are is getting publicity every year by rally for past 4 years but nothing happened. Pro immigrants are trying to block E-verify and some other anti immigration reforms. Anti immigrants are trying to block pro immigrant reforms. You are correct. However the corollary is that the pressure to resolve issues is building. The congress is getting a reputation as sitting and fiddling and as a "do nothing" body while problems of all sorts are worsening.
For example, during this crisis were it not for the cooperation and goodwill of Foreign central banks, this financial situation could have gotten a whole lot worse. Could you imagine the impact of any of the many countries with US reserves over 300 Billion such as China, Japan, Saudi, Russia or India moving or just announcing their reserves will move into Euros or Gold given the current fragile mindset? That would have caused the dollar to simply plummet. Frankly given the current state of affairs, If I were a central banker, I would diversify the reserves.
People may have differing views on how to fix things, but that they must everyone seems to agree. As not much has been accomplished on this and other issues over the last few years, we just might see a slew of issues addressed next year as a sense of urgency is building. This will be especially true if we get all 3 branches of Gov't on one side, right now that chance is with the Democrats.
Doing nothing is quite simply paralyzing this country, we mainly see it on the Immigration issue as it affects us directly, but the same is true on many issues.

The following is a very rough draft without reading some of the letters posted in the thread. I will read the posts tomorrow and polish it by tomorrow evening. I will need everyone's input since I don't know all the issues.
What happened
USCIS announced at the time the forms were due.
Applicants started filling forms 2-3 weeks before July 2.
Applicants changed their schedules to submit forms.
Advantages of EAD + AP
Don't know all!
Travel without visa -> saves Embassy overhead.
Spouse can work.
Can switch job.
Why does it hurt
Medical will not be valid after 1 year.
Rejected June filers can not file.
June filers did not file because they thought they will file in July.
Fees more then doubling
Name checking (which can take 1+ year) done in parallel with waiting for GC #.
Load balancing for USCIS.
USCIS which is supported 90% by application fee needs to care for applicants.
Very little chance of legislative relief for a looong time.

I can pretty much guarantee you, if there is no quarterly spillover, your projections for without quarterly spillover are way too optimistic.
Your with quarterly spillover numbers are probably closer.
Of course with the USCIS, all rules, logic and common sense goes out the window. Poor State Dept has to read them and their productivity/intentions monthly, and of course we are on the receiving end of their non sense.
